It was recently revealed that Panama’s Isla Palenque Island Resort was included into National Geographic’s “Unique Lodges of the World”, an exclusive list of small hotels prized for offering outstanding experiences, a strong inclination toward sustainability, and for protecting the natural and cultural heritage of their surroundings.
Launched in 2013, the program encompasses a strong promotion of the collection’s properties on National Geographic’s multimedia platform in order to divulge the philosophy, environmental commitment, and attributes of each lodge. Inclusion is the result of a rigorous vetting process and an on-site inspection by the firm’s representatives.
To date, only 55 small hotels around the world are part of the collection, eight of them being located in the Central America & Caribbean region.
Hans Pfister, a member of the Unique Lodges of the World Counsel Committee, described Isla Palenque as “… a treasure, an island filled with history with a strong foothold in the environment at all times, from the food and first-class lodging to its outstanding, well-trained personnel. It is definitely a well-deserved distinction.”
On her part, Patricia Mejías, the property General Manager, stated, “We are very pleased that Isla Palenque Island Resort has received this honor from National Geographic, and are particularly happy to have three properties in our collection possessing this esteemed distinction.”
Isla Palenque Island Resort belongs to Colección Cayuga, the owner of small luxury hotels in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama. Throughout the years, Colección Cayuga has obtained various international accolades for the high quality of its operations, such as Earth Changers (World Legacy Awards, 2017), Condé Nast World Savers (2010 and 2012), and Travel + Leisure Global Vision (environmental leadership, 2010).
