Panama has improved its position on the 2016 Latin American ranking of the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), moving up from position 19 to 10, rising at the world level from position 58 to 51, compared to the 2015 ranking.
The country is undoubtedly strengthening its position as one of the main destinations for MICE activities in the region. According to estimates, between 60 and 100 international-class events take place within our borders each year. Likewise, the private and government sectors are developing and investing resources to create an ideal environment for the MICE industry in Panama, the capital city of which features approximately 20,000 hotel rooms (an additional 12,000 rooms are scattered throughout the nation) –a fact that guarantees a complete and high-quality MICE destination, since many of said properties are part of prestigious hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, Wyndham, Starwood, Hyatt Place, Hard Rock, and Riu, among others. It is important to underline that these hotels are equipped with facilities for small and medium-sized meetings in a variety of locations (city, mountain, and beach hotels). Also,3 major convention centers are currently under construction in several parts of the country: the first in Panama City; the second, in the province of Chiriquí, and the third in the Azuero peninsula.
