Good news for Panama’s MICE industry! The signed contract between the government of Panama and the firm, SMG Latin America for the management and promotion of the new Amador Convention Center (CCA) was recently approved by the former.
In accordance with the aforementioned document, the following steps required for the US-based company are, among other things, the opening of a bank account for operation services, the launch of an international marketing program for the center and the furnishing of the facilities, in addition to joining a number of international associations related to convention center management.
Over 70 convention centers are part of SMG’s management portfolio around the globe. With regards to the company’s activities in Panama, it has been divulged that Mexico, Europe, and the United States will be among the target markets for the center’s promotion, which aims to make the Central American nation a magnet for corporate conventions, incentive events, banquets, and international meetings.
The convention center’s construction progress, as Panama’s new tourism minister, Iván Eskildsen, was able to confirm in a recent tour of the facilities, is over 91%.
The new facility is situated in Amador, one of the most strategic locations for tourism development in the entire country, being at the very entrance to the Panama Canal on the Pacific side, only minutes’ way from Miraflores locks, Panama City’s old quarter, and the central business district.
With capacity for 23,900 persons, the Amador Convention Center features four main divisions: a grand lobby, a banquet fall for up to 4,000 seated attendees, an exhibits section, and a loading area. It covers 61,175 m2, of which 33,178 m2 can be hired for a wide range of activities. The center will have a total of 1,700 parking spaces.
