Panama and Costa Rica will be the joint organizers and hosts of the 2020 FIFA U-2’ Women’s World Cup, scheduled for August 2020.
A total of 16 national teams will take part in the event, which was announced by FIFA earlier this week. It will be the second time in FIFA’s history that the organization declares two countries as joint hosts of one of its major tournaments (the previous one was the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup).
The official announcement of the games’ schedule will be announced at a later date.
“We would like to express our appreciation to the federations of Costa Rica and Panama for their commitment to women’s soccer and especially to the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. We are looking forward to having a fantastic tournament in August,” said Colin Smith, FIFA’s competitions & events director.
